Excellent reef fish.

Compatibility:
Only keep with other peaceful fish, does not tolerate aggression well. Best kept in a pair, can be kept in large groups. If kept in small numbers 2 fish pair off and bully the rest.

Other information.
Easy marine fish to breed, the male hold the eggs and fry in its mouth until they are around 8mm in length. Small specimens of a few centimetres live around long spinned urchins, when threatened they retreat between the spines for safety.
This species is classed and endangered in the wild, so all our Emperor Cardinals at The Water Zoo are captive bred.
