Because of this, traditionally it has been necessary to stock the aquarium slowly over a period of many weeks.
Recent advances in technology have enabled Tetra to identify and patent the bacteria responsible for ammonia and nitrite removal in aquariums - Nitrospira, Nitrosospira, and Nitrosomonas. These bacteria are included in high concentrations in SafeStart, and when added to a new aquarium instantly establish the biological activity of the filter. They are not present in any other product, and so only SafeStart can guarantee the rapid establishment of the filter, and therefore allow the immediate introduction of fish.
